FAQ

How can therapy help me?
Psychotherapy through evidence-based modalities is a heavily researched and proven way to gain relief from mental health issues. This may look like learning problem solving skills, gaining new coping skills for things like ongoing stress management or specific difficult life events, developing communication skills, identifying and changing life patterns, gaining a better understanding of yourself, improving life functioning, or healing from the past. Many people come to therapy to work on relationship issues, heal from trauma, move through grief, and managing symptoms related to anxiety, depression, or PTSD. The advantage of doing this work with a therapist is that I am a neutral, supportive and nonjudgmental resource for you, who can walk with you as well as guide you through this process.

While I may use a variety of techniques to work with you and aid your healing process, I will always be coming from a trauma-informed lens and am specialized in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

How is telehealth or teletherapy (online therapy) useful or different?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I like many other therapists are providing solely online therapeutic services. This has allowed many to see that teletherapy is just as effective as in person therapy, and many prefer to do the hard and vulnerable work of therapy in the comfort of their own homes. Many times, this convenience and comfort can provide reduced stress and more consistency in treatment. As your therapist, I will ensure that your information is kept private, that you have access to any therapeutic materials that may help you, and that you receive the highest quality of care.

How long should I expect to be in therapy?
Everyone’s treatment and experience in therapy is different, depending on their experiences, severity of the issues for seeking treatment, and consistency in treatment. Typically, treatment such as CPT, CBT and EMDR range from 12-18 weeks, however longer and ongoing treatment is completely normal. During our first session together, we will discuss what you’d like out of therapy, create a treatment plan for you, and decide on what treatment will look like.

I’ve never heard of EMDR, CPT or CBT. What are they?

Can I pay for therapy using my insurance?

As a private pay therapist, I don’t accept insurance for my psychotherapy services however I can provide a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement for out of network coverage.

Where do I start?

The first step is to set up your consultation! You can do so by scheduling a time for us to have a 15 minute chat about what you’d like to get out of therapy and to see if we’d be a good match.
